Sometimes I read MG fiction when I'm in the mood for something light. Having just finished reading a box set of crime mysteries, I was in that mood. So, I went scrolling through the vast virtual library and selected Kendra Kandletar and the Box of Whispers. At first, I thought I might have picked too young for me, but it didn't take long to immerse myself in Kendra's world. What a wonderful pick it ended up to be. It provided many laughs. Jinx's name twisting for Professor Bumbledean was hilarious. Pixar could do wonders with this one. What a hoot. I've already purchased book 2, so I'll be joining Kendra for another magical adventure sometime in the foreseeable future.

Kendra Kandlestar and the Box of Whispers The Chronicles of Kendra Kandlestar Lee Edward Fodi 9781927018255 Books Reviews
Wow! This was such a great story. My son and I just finished reading it this weekend. He loved it so much it's all he can talk about. Not only is the story very engaging, I was an interested in it as my son was, the illustration are wonderful and really help to emphasize the plot. It's hard to believe Fodi both wrote and illustrated this book! We will definitely be waiting for the sequel. We read this story after hearing a review and author interview at Just One More Book.
Hi Mr. Wiz
I thought you should know that my staff and I are selling lots of Kendra books! I got in 8 copies a week ago and I think I only have 2 or 3 left in stock. So, I ordered more tonight and I have emptied Ingram's stock again. I mostly sell used books, not new, and it is mostly unheard of for me to promote a self published or small print book.
My daughter [she is nine] and I finished the Box of Whispers a couple of nights ago. Wow, you did not disappoint! Your plot line stayed true, the suspense was perfect for both my daughter and I, the writing is engaging and mature. The characters are fully developed with interesting quirks and stay in character throughout. Even the monsters are well understood by the reader and not terribly scary, which I really like. The pictures and chapter heading fonts are very attractively done and add to the story without giving away too much of the plot [they remind me of the Wizard of Oz]. So, my daughter has recovered from the change in daylight savings as of this morning. She was popping into bed beside me at 630 demanding that I read more of The Door to Unger.
Thanks for making reading time enjoyable lately.
P.S. Hi Mr. Wiz, I LOVE your books! You are a great writer and illustrator. I especially liked the part when Kendra's braids were on fire. It was scary but cool, because I have never seen braids sticking out and scorched. By the way, we just started reading The Door to Unger. Did Oroook actually die or disappear? Well, thank you. from The Daughter
I met Lee Edward Fodi in an author's group I belong to. One night, I heard him read from one of his novels, and was quite charmed by his Disney-like reading. I finally got around to reading the first of the Kendra Kandlestar books and was drawn right in. I loved the characters, the monsters, and the Unger. My favorite was Oki with all his little screeches and how he tries not to think about onions. This story is absolutely adorable and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any teacher/librarian, any parent, or any child. It's that good! And, BTW, I was a teacher for over 20 years, so I know what I'm talking about.
The land of Een is not an easy place to find. It is "tucked in between the cracks of here and there, a tiny, quiet place that the sharpest eye would miss."
Een is inhabited by mostly friendly but tiny people (smaller than rabbits but bigger than mice). They look like gnomes or elves because of their pointed ears. And they can talk to the animals just like humans can talk to each other.
One citizen of Een is a young girl named Kendra Kandlestar. When the precious Box of Whispers is stolen from the vault under the Elder Stone, Kendra and a small group (Captain Jinx, Oki, Professor Bumblebean, Uncle Griffinskitch) leave Een through the magic curtain to find it and return it to its rightful place. It's a dangerous adventure and an unusual one because Eens are not known to be adventurous.
But it is a mighty adventure where riddles must be solved, magic carrot seeds serve a surprising purpose and fears are confronted. Can Kendra overcome the obstacles she faces? Will she find the Box of Whispers? Will she learn the fate of her parents? Kendra Kandlestar and the Box of Whispers will tell all, if you listen to the whispers.
Lee Edward Fodi has created a magical world for children. And I suspect they will be enthralled, entranced and want more. Based on the ending of this book, I believe we'll see more of Kendra Kandlestar and her friends in another installment.
Armchair Interviews says Bring on another Kendra Kandlestar book Mr. Fodi. We're waiting.
This is supposed to be for children, but this Nana enjoyed it very much along with her grand daughter. A special story for sure. We must mever lose the ability to see the magic and this book has magic.
My grandma who is 86 yrs old and a former grade school teacher, is in love with Kendra and all her friends. She had to specifically request to bring in the Kendra Kandlestar series to her local library in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. She has read 'Kendra Kandlestar and the Box of Whispers' twice and is now onto the third book in the series, 'Kendra Kandlestar and the Shard of Greeve.' Grandma has even passed it onto her friends and is now a hot topic at the pool or when they get together to play a game of Bridge. She can't get over the imagination Lee Fodi puts into his books, and only wishes they had been around for all her former students to have read when she was a teacher.

I bought this book for a granddaughter, and always read gifts before passing them on. I think she will enjoy the world of "magic, monsters, and mystery" of The Box of Whispers. It is a great adventure and has many lessons of bravery, compassion, and honesty. The strange creatures and citizens of this world should be entertaining and enlightening. I found it compelling.
