The Strange Tale of the Determined Crocodile is a delightful read on many levels. Through the telling of the story of one animal, this book assures children that there are indeed many caring adults working to protect our environment and wildlife. At the same time, children will delight in the antics of this particular crocodile. I especially loved it when Wilma redelivered the newspaper to its proper location. Very young children will delight with the repetition.Clearly this book has regional appeal as the story takes place on Sanibel Island in Florida. However, I think there are broader themes. One example is the Frost theme of "the road not taken." Wilma could have stayed safely in her Everglades habitat, but for some unknown reason she continued to emigrate to Sanibel despite being relocated to the Everglades on three separate occasions. Although in the end this would be her undoing, she had many happy years with the people of Sanibel watching out for her. What more respect could adults show for a wild creature than holding a memorial service to which 200 people attended.?
Randon Eddy's sunny water color illustrations delight the eye and give the reader insight into the Sanibel environment.

The Strange Tale of the Determined Crocodile Carol Zall Lincoln Randon T Eddy 9781934582459 Books Reviews
I found this book to be a fun read as well as educational. Should be good for all ages with a particular appeal to younger children. I learned a good deal about crocodiles and this particular determined crocodile. The story tells us how this crocodile kept coming back to the Ding Darling Reserve even when she was relocated. I own a small bookstore and recommend this book for people interested in animals and how they should be well treated and respected. The wonderful water color illustrations show the beauty of Sanibel and add to this intriguing story.
