Artificial intelligence, virtual friends, virtual relationships that morph into reality -- after reading the blurb, I couldn't resist Friend Me. It's a great plot with well developed characters. Rachel and Scott are people of faith, so the reader should expect them to behave as such. Human beings may never be able to create artificial intelligence as advanced as that portrayed in the story, but that potential stretch of reality is what made this story creepy and intriguing. I won't put in any spoilers, so I'll just say that my only criticism is the ending. It should have taken a little longer to resolve the main issues, especially after things become so gnarled and twisted. The ending was a bit too neat and tidy. But, will I read more of John Faubion? You bet!

This book was a nail biter!!! John Faubion is a master of suspense. I like that it incorporates Christian values of man turning from his sin. Please John Faubion write another book quickly!!!!!
Mr. Faubion's first book was a really good work of suspense. He shows how quickly life can turn to turmoil when we step away from God, His will for us, and evil steps in. Scott and Rachel found out the hard way...
I really liked this book until the last few chapters it seemed as though the author thought the story was too long and had to end it rather abruptly. As I have written I really liked the story until the last two chapters that is why I gave this review 4stars.
Great book. Strange, no one has bought the film rights yet.
As someone who enjoys science fiction especially artificial intelligence, I found the back drop of the story very interesting. It’s conceivable that having virtual friends over the internet might be a reality someday. It’s an interesting take on where social media might be headed, and while it’s easy to focus on the positive aspects you don’t get far in the story before problems start. Even today, people especially gamers; neglect the real world in favor of the virtual. It was a very interesting book and I really enjoyed it.
I saw this book at the local Christian bookstore and was intrigued by the blurb on the back cover, but came to where I got it used for 1/3 the price, including S&H. Once I started reading, this book was hard to put down! Interesting and imaginative story line, well-written, and even though Christian values were mentioned throughout, it was not at all "preachy,' although the end was slightly unrealistic. Good story line for a movie.
First, I must disclose that I work with the author and consider him a friend.

That being said, I feel I can still write an honest review because I know he'll appreciate the critique.

With the prevalence of social media, and people spending more and more of their time interacting with one another online instead of face-to-face, this novel serves as cautionary tale, philosophical reflection on the nature of relationships, and entertaining thriller all in one.

As the headline says, I thought this is a very thought-provoking read. How anonymous are we online? Do we put too much trust in the companies we divulge our secrets and desires to? Do companies like Google and Facebook know too much about our lives? Do we use idealized/romanticized online relationships as a band-aid for our real ones? These, and more, are all questions addressed by the author over the course of the book through the various characters.

Faubion does a terrific job of making the characters believable and relatable.

All the main characters pass the Rizzo Characterization Test™ Can I picture them living a life outside the story? Can I picture what they would do for fun on the weekend? Can I picture interacting with them myself?

Each character has a distinct perspective and voice, and I liked how the tale is told through different characters, including the antagonist. It is here that I think Faubion's characterization shines. Instead of making an arbitrarily evil character, I feel like I really got to know the antagonist and understood why she was doing the things she did. I ended up feeling sorry for her, and despite the evil acts she perpetrated, I was able to view her as a human being at the end (albeit a very damaged one).

Some reviewers have commented unfavorably on the Christian aspect of the story, and I strongly disagree with that criticism. Christian and non-Christian alike can surely relate to being torn between their personal values and the temptations of the world. Christianity is present throughout the book, but it is never preachy or heavy-handed. The characters express their interpretation of events through their faith in a real and honest way.

As a Christian myself, I could certainly relate to the struggle of trying to follow God's Word amidst the glamour of evil that is paraded in front of us everyday. I think the Christian reader will especially appreciate the yearning to be close to God that the Christian characters express, and the guilt and disappointment they have in themselves when they choose to indulge the fleeting pleasures of the world.

My only real criticism of the story is that the last few chapters feel rushed. Not to spoil anything, but there is an assault which seems very random and out of place. I feel like the author was trying to make a point, but I wasn't exactly sure what it was. Also, a character is quickly introduced and then has an integral part in the ending. I felt it strained believability. Finally, I felt the way the story concluded was a bit too "convenient". I'd like to say more to validate my opinions on this, but I don't want to give anything away.

All that being said, I really enjoyed the book. I finished it in two late-night reading sessions because I simply lost track of time and didn't want to put it down, and I think that basically says it all.

I think it is a fantastic read and I look forward to seeing more from Mr. Faubion.
